Festival Preparation Day
A supportive preliminary assessment ahead of festival season for piano students preparing for spring festivals and competitions. It is not a competition. Students perform in a simulated evaluation setting for an experienced, certified adjudicator and leave with written feedback and a suggested rating.
Registration closes Wednesday, February 3, 2027 at 10:00 PM.
What to know
- Students of all ages and all levels are welcome; any level of preparedness is welcome, and students do not need to be polished or fully ready.
- Solo students and duet teams are both eligible to participate.
- Students may perform any piece of their choosing except a concerto. Memorization is optional; students may play from memory or from the score.
- Each solo participant or duet team has a maximum playing time of 12 minutes, and the adjudicator may stop a performance at the time limit.
How the day runs
- Performances take place in two Yamaha grand studios.
- When registering, teachers may select an available time slot from either studio. Playing times cannot be changed after registration is submitted.
- Participants may warm up on Yamaha Clavinova CLP-635 instruments before their playing times.
- Submit one online registration form per solo participant or duet team.
- Even when playing from memory, bring a copy of the music for the adjudicator. Mark measure numbers in the score; one number at the beginning of each system is sufficient.
- An experienced, certified adjudicator provides written feedback and a suggested rating.
Schedule note. Actual playing times may be adjusted slightly because of unforeseen circumstances. Teachers will be notified if an adjustment is necessary.
